In 2013, Hoover & Strong joined Ethical Metalsmiths’ Materials Sourcing Consortium to bring FAIRMINED certified gold to the US jewelry market. This consortium of US jewelers, organized by the non-profit organization Ethical Metalsmiths (EM), worked directly with certified artisanal mining communities in Peru to bring traceable, responsible, artisanally mined gold into the US Market for the very first time.

Ethical Metalsmiths' Sourcing Consortium strives to:

  • Improve the lives of thousands of artisan miners

  • Create responsible sourcing alternatives that provide positive impacts in the communities and environments where resources are extracted

  • Create a 100% traceable pathway from certified FAIRMINED AND Fairtrade artisan miners to US jewelers, and ultimately into the hands of US consumers

  • Introduce Fairtrade and FAIRMINED gold to the US

  • Educate US jewelers and US consumers about Fairtrade and FAIRMINED gold

Joining this consortium is a great opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of artisan miners

"As Entrepreneurial Artisan Jewelers we have an opportunity to significantly impact the way in which mining occurs and how our customers relate to their jewelry and the materials from which it is made. With the right allies, such as Hoover & Strong, The Alliance for Responsible Mining and Fairtrade International we bring a legacy of integrity and social justice into our industry. This is helping to change lives!" - Martin Taber, Ethical Metalsmiths Futuring Committee Chair and Principle Owner of Taber Studios and Martin Taber Designs
